SOCIETY FOB PREVENTION The monthly meeting of the executive of the Otago Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Aipmals, hel3 yesterday, was attended bv Messrs Crosby Morns (chairman), J. C. Willis, G. Matheson, G. L. Nelson, A. 1). Sutherland, A. Lawrensou, W. Cooper, J. R. Oickisou, J. Gordon, S. P, Peith, and E. C. Reynolds. Accounts totalling £4G Is 7d were passed lor payment, and the sum of £lO4 was reported invested in a corporation bond. Correspondence was received from Messrs T. Cannon, of Nevis, and J. Hall, of Anderson’s Ray. The first was a letter of a complaint from Mr Cannon regarding the shooting of his horse with a .22 calibre rifle. The animal had been shot in the hind leg in two places, considerable pain resulting. —lhe Chairman said that tin's was a serious matter, and stated that in bis opinion the case should not be dropped, but referred to the superintendent of police.—A motion to this effect was carried unanimously. Regarding Mr J. Hall’s letter, the Chairman said that no fewer than sixcats were provided with the bare necessities lor existence by other people, the owner having been in hospital, and on her leaving the institution had also left the neighhmirhoood. He stated that no fewer than 21 cals, nine dogs, and four pigeons were kept by this woman at one period,—The inspector, Mr J. J. Hinclielitf. was recommended to look into the matter. ihe Chairman also made reference to coursing, and on information from the inspector and the executive a motion was carried to write the Coursing Club to the effect that strong hares bo used. INSPECTOR'S REPORT.
