ENGLISH RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM

THE AUSTRALIAN TGUR WIN AGAINST QUEENSLAND Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright BRISBANE, June 14. England defeated Queensland by 19 points to 4 to-day in a game which, while not a brilliant spectacle, revealed magnificent cover defence, the visitors' consistency, and Hodgson's goal kicking. Queensland was quite unable to make any headway against the defence, its few opportunities falling down through faulty handling. Brogden cut through close to a scrum to score England's first try, which Hodgson converted. The baby of the team. Edwards, the right wing, completed a brilliant movement initiated by Brough when he piclscd up from a clever punt by Brogden and streaked for the line. Brough, who gave a masterly display at full-back, was again in the picture when he co-operated with Belshaw and Watkins to enable the wing, Smith, to score in the corner. Hodgson's value to his side was shown by five goals, three of which were well out from halfway. In the first half play was rather disappointing, England apparently being anxious to test the strength of the Queonslanders before giving anything away. With the score 11 to 4 in its favour at half-time, however, and Edwards's try coming within a few minutes, the visitors realised they had the game in their hands, and during the closing stages of play they exploited open football, with the three-quarters throwing the ball about* beautifully. Brough often chimed in. He proved to-day that he is just as entertaining as Sullivan. , The attendance was 23,684, and the gate £2,492. The teams were : » England.—J. Brough, A. Edwards, A. J. Risman, W. Belshaw, S. Smith, S. Broaden, W. Watkins, M. Beverley, L. A. Troup, M. Hodgson, N. Silcock, T. Armitt, H. Woods. Queensland. —W. Smith, H. Robinson, W. Mahen, J; Reardon, L. Hudson. V.
