WIGHTMAN GUP RETAINED BY AMERICA Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, June 13. America retained the Wightman Cup, winning four matches to three. Mrs Fabvan defeated Miss .Stammers, 6-3, 6-4. Miss Hound defeated Miss Jacobs, 6-3 6-3.* Miss Babcock defeated Miss Hardwick, 6-4. 4-6, 6-2. Miss Jacobs and Mrs Fabyan defeated Miss Stammers and Miss James, 1-6. 6-3, 7-1. The British defeat was due to Miss Stammers's inconsistency. She did not reproduce yesterday’s brilliance, especially against Mrs Fabyan. She was also very erratic in the doubles, when she lost her service at 4-4. M iss Jacobs, after two defeats, rallied magnificently in the doubles.
OTAGO HUNT CLUE MEET AT HIGHCLIFF The weekly run of the Otago Hunt Club was held on Saturday at Higli-t-liif over the properties of Messrs .1. and D. J. Robertson, G. Landreth, J. Johnson, G. Donaldson. There was a lar{;e attendance of members, who met at the kennels and proceeded to Mr J. Robertson's, where the throw-off took place. In the absence of the deputy master (Mr R. C. B. Greenslade) Mr J. Dick filled that position. Although there were several difficult jumps throughout the hunt, all those who followed completed the course, and there were no falls. The first jump was a
post-and-rails, followed by a stone wall "and two wire fences, after which the trail led into Mr D. Robertson's property, in which there were several good fences and posts-and-rails. The last jump brought the followers on to the road, and from here the trail led to Mr G. Landreth's property, in which there were a number of good jumps consisting of post-and-rails and a stone wall. The trail then led into Mr Donaldson's paddock, where good jumping was witnessed by a large number of spectators who had followed in cars. | .At the-conclusion of the hunt those present proceeded to the residence of the master's parent's (Mr and Mrs R. Brunton), where they were entertained at afternoon tea. Before proceeding home Mr W. Mastic thanked the pro-pertv-owners and Mr and Mrs Brunton, Mr Brunton briefly replying.
