MOSGIEL COURT

(Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) James Sutherland was convicted and fined 5s (costs 10s) for riding an unlighted bicycle. Kenneth Williamson was fined 20s (costs 10s) for driving a heavy-traffic vehicle at an excessive speed; and on a similar charge Sydney Smart was lined £2 (costs 10s). For carrying in excess of his maximum load, Smart was also fined 10s and costs 10s. Alexander Ralston (Mi- W. P. Hart-st-onge) was fined £3, with witnesses’ expenses amounting to £4 Is and court costs (245), for negligent driving on the road near Olokia on May 5, at 7 p.m. He ran into and damaged a hitcher's van. After hearing the evidence, the Magistrate said it was a cleatcase of negligence, and although the defendant would have to pay a large amount for witnesses’ expenses, ho would have to be penalised substantially, as it was a bad case.
