ASSAULT AND ROBBERY

YMHt HAHN'S OFFENSE [Pm United Press Association.] PALMERSTON NORTH, June 10. Arising from an incident on the Shannon Railway Station on May 30, Rawiri Makarika, a youthful Maori, wis charged in the Magistrate’s Court with robbing William de Ridder of £7 10s, and also with using personal violence. The accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. De Ridder stated that he had been talking to the accused and another Maori, and bad given both some money when they said they had none. Afterwards both accosted him and said that they did not want the money. They talked for some time, and then the accused struck ,him on the face, knocking him out. When ho came to an hour and a-half later ho found that his jaw was broken and that he had been robbed.
