TERROR OF DOGS
MAN DRIVEN TO DEATH From the day when, 20 years ago, two Alsatian dogs jumped against AVilliam Hitchings, of Pembroke, Wales, he had been haunted by a terror of dogs. Recently he was seen running toward the sea, near his house, chased by a dog banking furiously at his heels. Later, his body was recovered from the water. His son, Frederick George Hitchings, told the coroner at the inquest that his father would not enter a house where a dog was kept. Recording a verdict of “ Drowning by accidentally falling into the sea,” the coroner, Mr G. S. Kelway, expressed the opinion that Hitchings was frightened by the dog, and, slipping into the water, was unable to save himself.
