Sniping and stoning of the police necessitated the 1 firing of several rounds on a crowd at Haifa. One person was killed and one wounded, and many arrests were made before order was restored. The authorities have called up the trans-Jordan frontier reservists to round up illicit arms. PEACE EFFORTS FAIL ARAB LEADERS STAND FIRM. JERUSALEM, June 7. (Received June 8, at 10.30 a.m.) The peacemaking efforts of Emir Abdullah, ruler of the Arab territory in Transjordan, have failed, the Arab leaders replying that the strike will continue unless the British Government changes its policy and suspends Jewish immigration.
