MOVEMENTS. Coastal. Kaimai arrived this morning from Westport via Bulff. She will sail tomorrow for Oamaru and Greymouth. Gale is now due on Wednesday to load and sail for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Holmglen is now expected here tomorrow to sail the same day for Wellington, New Plymouth, and Port Waikato via ports. Kartigi leaves Wellington to-morrow for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due here on Friday, to sail on Saturday lor Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington. and Auckland. - . Karu leaves New; Plymouth on Friday for Dunedin direct. She will sail on Monday for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth via ports. Breeze is due here from Lyttelton on Friday, and is to sail the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. Kiwitea is to load at Westport on June 9 for Timaru, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due here on June 13. Waimarino is to leave Auckland next Friday for Dunedin via ports, and is due here on June 10. She will sail the same day for Bluff. Wainui is scheduled to leave Wellington on Friday for Lyttelton and Dunedin, and is due here on June 9 to load for Napier and Gisborne via ports. Wingatui, which has been undergoing survey at Auckland, is to resume on Friday, when she will sail for Lyttelton. She will load there for a return voyage to Lyttelton. Overseas. Melbourne Maru radios that heavy weather is being experienced, and she will not reach Dunedin until to-morrow afternoon to discharge Japanese cargo and load a quantity of general cargo. From this port she will proceed to Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland to complete. Benholm is now expected here tomorrow from northern ports to discharge. She is to sail on Thursday to complete discharge at Australian ports. Wairangi, which is now berthed at Port Chalmers, is expected to Sail this evening for Lyttelton to complete, and is to sail finally on June 13 for Southampton and London via Cape Horn and LAs Palmas. Canadian Constructor completed working cargo at Dunedin yesterday, and sailed in Lie afternoon for Lyttelton and Dunedin.

Cape Horn is expected to sail this evening for Melbourne, Sydney,_ Fiji, Apia, Vancouver and San Francisco. The Union Company is announcing an increased number of cruises for next summer. The outstanding features of these will be a fortnight’s cruise by the Maungauui from Sydney round the South Island raid a cruise by the new steamer Awatea from Auckland to the northern bays. The Maungauui on her retirement from the Australia-New Zealand-San Francisco service will _ be the vessel principally used for cruising this coming season. The first cruise will he by the Maunganai from Sydney to Milford Sound, George Sound, Doubtful Sound, Dusky Sound, Stewart., Island, v"Dunedin, Lyttelton, (JueetV Charlotte : Sound, and Pelorus Sound, leaving Sydney on December 2. AUSTRALIA-NEW ZEALAND. Waitaki is to leave Melbourne tomorrow for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington. She is due at Dunedin on June 9. Omana was expected to load at itditliburg, and will load at Adelaide on Thursday for Auckland, Portland, Wollington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on June 13. Noble, who has transferred to the Waipiata as third officer. Air J. L. Watson is now third officer of the Kartigi, relieving Mr 11. D. Scotchmer for holidays. WAIWERA’S NEW RECORD. The Shaw, Savill motor ship . Waiwora, which readied New Plymouth at the week-end from Brisbane to load Homeward, made a very fast passage from "London to Australia, wjiero she discharged cargo. The Waiwera s time from London to Fremantle was 27 days 17 hours 12 minutes, at an average speed of 16.86 knots. 1 During the run from Loudon to Cape Town the Waiwera cut one day 14 hours 36 minutes from her previous record, making the passage in In days 24 minutes, at an average speed of 16.92 knots. The voyage was done non-stop, and entailed no undue pressure on the ship’s engines. On the run to the Equator the average speed was 17.4 knots. Strong head winds were then encountered, reducing the ship’s speed. THE PORT HUON. The Port Line motor ship Fort Huon arrived at Auckland on May 27 to commence discharge. The remainder of the cargo i 3 for Wellington, and Dunedin, where she is due ou Friday. After completion of discharge she will load at Oamaru, Timaru, Bluff, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, and Wellington. She is scheduled to clear Wellington finally on June 27 for London via Cape Horn. NEW FRENCH LINER. Further details are to hand of thevessel which will be laid down in ALny by the Cliantier et Ateliers de St. Nazire-Penhoet to replace the burnt-out liner L’Atlantiqno. 'The ship is to have a displacement of about 30,000 tons, and an overall length of about 65Gft. The engines will consist of four groups of Parsons type single-reduction geared

turbines, with a total output of about 60,000 i.b.p. The trial speed is to be more than 25 knots. The vessel will be different from L’Atlantique not only on account of her lower tonnage, but also for her higher speed and improved machinery. Whereas L’Atlantique had fire-tube 'boilers, the new vessel will be fitted with 10 Penhoet watertube boilers of the type used for the Normandie; furthermore, the steam drums of these boilers will be electrically welded. The vessel will be put into service in the autumn of 1938, and the contract price is understood to bo about £2,400,000. BELGENLAND TO BE SCRAPPED. Columbia, ex Belgenland, os Belgic, triple-screw passenger .steamer, four decks and shelter deck, 24,578 tons gross 13.130 tons net. built Harlaud and Wolff, Belfast, 1917,- S.S. No. 1, 1935, and owned by the Atlantic Transport Company, of West Viriginia, has been sold to Douglas and Ramsey, Glasgow. for about £55,000, as she lies in New York, and will be broken up.
