FLATS FOR GEORGE STREET
BLOCK IK SPANISH MISSION STYLE Demolition -of the old two-storied wooden building, divided into three flats, in George street, near Union street, has been completed, and a start has been made with the laying of the foundations for a block of eight flats designed along the most modern lines. The building will present a representation of the Spanish Mission style of architecture, and it should, therefore, form an attractive addition to Dunedin’s main thoroughfare. Brick and jflaster are to be used in its construction, and the finishings and fittings throughout are to ,be chosen from the most modern available. According to the plans, the fiats will vary in size. Some contain a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchenette, and bathroom, while the others will include % living room, a dining room, three bedrooms, a kitchenette, and bathroom. The front facade of the building will give the impression that the block is a four-story one. whereas actually not more than one flight of stairs will have to. be ascended to reach any one fla't. This is made possible, through the sloping nature of the site. Mr H. M'Dowell Smith is the architect for the work.
