SOUTH ISLAND TOURIST TRAFFIC

BODY TO FOSTER GROWTH SIX REGIONS PROPOSED [Tee United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 31. The formation of an association to develop the tourist traffic in the South Island and Stewart Island will be considered at a conference to he held in Christchurch in June or July. Invitations to attend the conference will be sent by the Lyttelton Harbour Board to harbour boards, city, borough, and county coumrls, tourist and travel organisations, hotel and hostel interests, progress leagues chambers of commerce, automobile associations, and other organisations in the South Island intcicsted in the development and welfare of the tourist trade. It is proposed to call tlio organisation the_ South Island Travel Association of New Zealand, and it will he modelled on the lines of the Australian National Travel Association. The draft constitution proposed sets out 15 objects, the first of winch is to provide machinery by which interested organisations may co-operate to develop and maintain the tourist traffic as well as the scenic resorts and the amenities of the South Island and Stewart Island. It is proposed that the island should be divided into six tourist regions each to have represeutatation on the General Committee, the regions being the provinces of Nelson, Westland. Southland (with Stewart Island), Otago, Canterbury, and Marlborough.
