GIFT UPON GIFT

MR SALTZMAN'S GENEROSITY £3,000 FOR SANATORIUM [Per United Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, May 27. The gratifying news has been received by the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee that Mr Samuel Saltzman, a well-known Dunedin business man, has given £3,000 to the committee for the erection of an administrative and treatment block at the sanatorium. The construction of this block had to be postponed in 1931 owing to the depression. Plans and specifications had been prepared, but the committee’s finances would not permit of its erection. “ This is a magnificent gift, coming at a time when the block is urgently needed and when the committee’s expenditure on shelters has left it finan-

sially embarrassed,” said the secretary of tne-committee (Mr T. .Pryde) when announcing the gift. “ We will be able to proceed almost immediately with the erection of the block, for Mr Saltzman is .making the money available at once. Mr Saltzman is a most public-spirited citizen, for other institutions have recently received substantial gifts from him.” RECENT BENEFACTIONS. Mr Saltzman’s latest gift brings his recent benefactions for hospital and kindred purposes to ’ the large total of £7,500, made up as follows; To Dunedin Hospital £I,OOO To Greymouth Hospital £I,OOO To Children’s Camp, Company’s Bay £I,OOO To Oamaru Hospital £1,500 To Waipiata Sanatorium ... £3,000 Total ... ... £7,500
