BRIGHT COMEDY
TWO FAMOUS STARS FOR EMPIRE America and England join hands to form the screen’s most amusing comedy team in the new Metro-Gold wyn-M ay cp story, ‘The Perfect Gentleman, which will open a season at the Empire tomorrow. Frank Morgan represents America and Cicely Courtneidge England. f 4 The Perfect Gentleman concerus the ups and downs of Major Horatio Chatteris, a loveable down-at-heel retired army officer. \\ hen tho major discovers he is becoming a distinct liability to bis respectable vicar son (Richard Waring) and the girl be is about tp marry (Heather Angel), ha leaves and returns to London, .only to find out that be has been evicted for non-payment of rent. _ Even this setback does not worry his sunny disposition. A pocket book found under 4 seat in a park supplies him with enough money to redeem his dress suit, and, clad in his best, he sets otit in search of high adventure. Cicely Courtneidge has tho role of a successful light comedy star who befriends the major, and from one diverting situation to another they clown their way in admirable manner. Comedy is uppermost, and with a slight leavening of drama to add to the interest, the film has been rounded out in brilliant style.
