JAZZ IN HYDE PARK
SUNDAY AFTERNDDH PROGRAMMES CROONER GIVEN AH OVATION Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 11. (Received May 12, at 9.35 a.m.) The ‘ Sim-Herald ’ says Londoners were increduluous when the serenity of Hyde Park on a Sabbath afternoon was ruffled by the voice of a crooner from the bandstand. It was the first of the new entertainment programmes in which jazz replaces martial music. Promcnaders quickly recovered from the shock and gave the crooner an ovation. “An enormous number of people enjoy this kind of music, so why not jazz in Hyde Park?” asked the programme manager in announcing the engagement of famous jazz band conductors at a series of guest performances.
