WEATHER FORECAST
MAINLY FINE The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the Southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— The anti-cyclone mentioned yesterday, is centrally over New Zealand, and has intensified. The depression over Eastern Australia has lost energy, and has made little progress eastward. Forecast: Light to moderate and variable winds. Weather mainly fine, with cool night, but mild day temperatures; but cloudy on parts of the coast, with possibly light rain in places. Seas slight to moderate. DULL AND COLD. Despite early promise of another sunny day, conditions became overcast and remained raw at noon. At midday, when the barometer was steady at 30.25 in, the best recording for a mouth, it was still calm, as has now been the case for many days, and the thermometer reading was 46.2 deg, against yesterday’s maximum of 53.5 deg, Last night’s minimum of 35deg was the lowest for the winter to date, 4deg of frost also being recorded, so that this morning’s minimum temperature was also affected—4odeg. Light rain occasionally threatened, but no change had developed up till cari£ this afternoon.
