OTAGO TEAM SELECTED The Otago team to play Canterbury on. May 23 at Christchurch for the J. K. Jones Cup was announced by the selectors (Messrs J. Simpson, L. Ball, and A. AVyness) at last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Football Association. Eleven players were announced, the selectors reserving the right to announce an additional player after next Saturday’s matches. The team is ; Goal.—Smith (H. 5.0.8.). Smith was appointed manager of the team, which will leave Dunedin by the second express on May 22. It was decided to play tho senior matches as drawn on May 23. TRANSFER RULE POINT. An application for the transfer of A. Sutherland from Christchurch to Maori Hill was considered at length. A representative of the club, Air H. Newall, waited on the committee and asked for a ruling on the question of 14 clays’ residence in the district as mentioned in the rule. He said it was his opinion that this clause was included to avoid any attempt at “ ringiug-in a player, but with respect to the present application it could be proved the player is now a bona fide resident, and he thought he should be allowed to play. During the discussion which followed it was pointed out that the player had accepted a position in Dunedin, and that he had arranged for accommodation from April 30, but did not actually arrive until May 4.

Members were at variance in regard to the reading of the rule, and the president (Air E. J. Anderson), who was present, was asked for his opinion. Mr Anderson stated that the rule did not state the position clearly, but he thought the spirit of the rule intended that each clause should be taken separately, and it was his opinion that Sutherland was now a bona fide resident of the district and should be granted his transfer.

After further discssiou, the following motion—“ That this committee, being satisfied, under rule 12a, sub-clause 2. that Sutherland, of Maori Hill, is now a bona fide resident of the City of Dunedin, he is entitled to be registered under this association, and that the Transfer Committee be instructed accordingly ” —was carried on the casting vote of the chair. The transfer of D. Fyfe from Mosgiel to Seacliff was also referred to the Transfer Committee. GENERAL.

The Canterbury Association wrote accepting June 20 as tho date for tho return match for the Jones Trophy with Otago at Dunedin. The Alaori Hill Club advised that it had forwarded an entry for tho Chatham Cup. In reply to a question, the secretary (Air AVoodhead) intimated that he understood High School Old Boys were considering the matter of entering for the competition. Owing to a shortage of teams in tho fourth grade the Match Committee recommended that this grade bo merged with .the third grade, the latter grade to be divided into two sections, “ A ” and “ B,” and this was agreed to.
