WELLINGTON LIBEL ACTION [Pep, Uxited Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 12. The alleged libel action of Joseph Heimaun v. Franz Meissner ended today in a verdict for the defendant. The Judge said he agreed with the finding of the jury. [Heimaun, merchant, of Wellington, claimed £1,250 damages for libel and £750 damages for slander against Franz Meissner, of Havelock North, orchardist. Plaintiff alleged that defendant falsely and maliciously wrote and published a letter addressed to Max Heimaun, in which were words plaintiff alleged meant that he had committed a criminal offence in New Zealand, and that ho could not eomo to New Zealand without being arrested. He also alleged that defendant in writing publishing the letter was actuated by express malice. The slander claim was based on an alleged statement of defendant to one Fickling that plaintiff had smuggled diamonds, and could not come to New Zealand.]
