'MIMI’ ON SCREEN
GERTRUDE LAWRENCE FOR OCTAGON *La Vie de Boheme,’ Murger’s famous play, presents wonderful opportunities for a brilliant screen adaptation, and this has been readily recognised by the producer of ‘Mimi,’ the modern interpretation of ‘ La Boheme,’ which opens at the Octagon to-morrow. Full advantage has been taken of this great romance by Gertrude Lawrence and Douglas Fairbanks, jun., who occupy the leading roles. In their interpretation of the love story of Redolphe, a young and ambitious Parisian playright struggling for fame, and Mimi, darling of the Latin quarter, Miss Lawrence and Douglas Fairbanks, jun., are responsible for an offering which is full of life and vividly depicts the gaiety and tragedy of the young lovers.- No efforts have been spared to place an outstanding picture on the screen, and it is not hard to realise why ‘ Mimi ’ has met with an enthusiastic reception from overseas audiences and critics. The settings are particularly artistic and the lavishly-staged Venetian ball scene is memorable. To be shown on the same programme is a stirring Zane Grey romance, ‘ Nevada,’ starring Larry Crabbe and Kathleen Burke.
