‘ROSE LANE’

FINAL PERFORMANCE It was something of a triumph for Dunedin producers and actors to be able to present a local three-act play to full houses every evening during an all too short season, but there is no doubting that ‘ Rose Lane ’ fully justified its choice. The large audience present at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening fully displayed their confidence in the excellence of the author’s work, the naturalness of the acting, and the outstanding work of the producers. As Maggie Mnlrcy Mrs John Hamer won for herself well-deserved applause, while Mrs Roemer Gair, as Mrs Fielding, presented another excellent performance. In the title role of Rose Fielding Miss Roa Johnson gave an admirable characterisation. Mr Reynolds Herbert was outstanding as Mr Fielding; and other members of the cast who acquitted themselves with distinction were Messrs Arthur Lungley. Jack Johnson, Gordon Turner, and Desmond Greenslade. The work of tho producer (Mr F. H. Dampen) was in evidence all through the production, while the staging and scenery were well in keeping with the high standard of the play itself. After the epilogue floral tributes and gifts were presented to Miss Edith Howes (tho author) and members of tbe cast. Miss Howes thanked all those who had worked to produce the play and helped to make it such a pronounced success. Mr A. G. Smith, on behalf of New Zealand Authors’ Week Committee, thanked Miss Howes for allowing her play to be produced by an amateur organisef ion.
