ANOTHER TOUR Of OTAGO NEGOTIATIONS TO BE COMMENCED The proposal to make inquiries concerning another tour of Otago by an Australian team of swimmers next season was before last night’s meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, which was attended by the president (Mr AV. A. Jenkins) in the chair, Messrs A. Findlay, D. T. Woodfield, D. C. Bannatyne, W. H. Matthews, E. Sonntag, W. Williams, D. Thomson, B. Kerr, J. O. Byrnes, F. Beauchamp, P. 14. L. Forrester, J. M‘Taggart, and E. C. Isaacs (hon. secretary).

The Secretary reported that during their tour of Australia, AA r . J. Jarvis and P. E. Mathieson had made tentative inquiries in New South AVales and Victoria concerning a tour before Christmas next season, and of those who had expressed a willingness to visit Otago was R. Masters, the Australian diving champion and Olympic representative.

It was resolved to get in touch with Mr Dudley Hellmrich, secretary of the New South. Wales Amateur Swimming Association, inquiring concerning the possibilities of a tour being arranged, and also to write to Mr A. AA f . B. Fawcett, secretary of the Victorian Amateur Swimming Association,

KIWI CLUB’S INTERMEDIATE AND JUNIOR CARNIVAL.

The local officer (Mr A. Findlay) reported on the Kiwi Club’s intermediate and junior carnival, and congratulated the Kiwi Club on its first attempt to run a carnival of this kind. It showed that the club was taking a step in the right way to bring out its young swimmers. Quite a few showed good promise. AVith the help of the officials in charge, a long programme was put through without a hitch, this being due iu a large measure to the system adopted by Mr J. H. Peat for speeding up the announcement of the results. Mr Findlay paid tribute to Mr Peat’s work, and also expressed appreciation of Reg. Geddes’s willingness at all times to give demonstrations to help the sport along. P. E. Mathieson also had to be congratulated on the breaking of the New Zealand 100 metres back stroke record, previously held by G. Low, of Canterbury. The President referred in appreciative terms to Mathieson’s latest performance, and said that he now held every New Zealand back stroke record. It was decided to record a minute of appreciation on the centre’s books, and to forward a copy to Mathieson. It was also decided to write to Mr G. H. Peat, expressing the centre’s keen appreciation of the very valuable work he had done for swimming during the past season. NEAV BATHS. The Town Clerk replied to the centre’s letter extending an invitation to the members of the General Commitlee of the City Council to meet the Baths Campaign Sub-committee for the purpose of inspecting plans and specifications of modern swimming pools. The General Committee was of the opinion that the members should first have an opportunity v of inspecting the plans, etc., before conferring with the sub-committee. After the committee, had had an opportunity of going over the material, the centre would be further communicated with as to arranging for the suggested conference. The secretary w r as instructed to supply the information requested. GENERAL. On behalf of the AVater Polo Committee, Mr Bannatyno reported that Kiwi B and Dunedin B had tied for the B grade water polo championship. The matter of arranging for a play-off was left in the hands of the committee. it was announced that the Kiwi Club’s function in honour of the success of its A team would be held next Thursday, and that the polo banner would be presented at this function. The executive reported on the proposal to hold a function in honour of Otago’s success at the national senior championships and at the intermediate and junior meeting, and it was decided to make arrangements to hold a dance in honour of the Otago teams early in June, the matter being left in the hands of a sub-committee.

The Secretary of the Training' College Club (Mr J. A. Johnston) wrote stating that the college had reformed its Swimming Club, and now sought reaffiliation with the centre.—ft was decided to forward the application to the New Zealand Council with a recommendation that the application be granted. It was also resolved to write to the principal of the college (Mr J. A. Moore) expressing pleasure at the reopening of the college and the subsequent revival of the Swimming Club. The Secretary of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association (Mr T. M, Bryclonel wrote conveying the congratulations of his centre at the success of the Otago swimming representatives in annexing the Yaldhurst Shield at the recent championships.
