DOUBLE FEATURE FOR STRAND The plot of Paramount’s ‘ The Virginian,’ which opens at the Strand, to-morrow, denis with the rivalry of two cowboys, Gary Cooper and Richard Arlen, both rivals for the hand of Mary Brian. Walter Huston, who is their common enemy, manages to inveigle the wild and impulsive Arlen into his cattle-rustling activities. When Arlen is caught by a posse headed by his pal Cooper and hanged, Mary Brian believes that Cooper had chosen this means to get rid of his rival. Cooper swears to get Huston. But his love for Mary Brian, who makes him promise not to shoot it out with Huston, holds him back from revenge. Then Hustom comes to • town and gives Cooper until sun? down to leave. Torn bet-wen honour and love, Cooper finally finds a solution in a thrilling climax.
Following her acclaim in the title role of ‘ Madame Butterfly,’ Svlvia Sidney returns to the screen in the second picture, in another modern story from the shrewd pen of Vina Del mar, author of ‘ Bad Girl.’ The latest Dolmar story, produced by B. P. Schulberg for Paramount, in which Miss Sidney is costarred with George Raft, is ‘ Pick Up,’ a tender, human romance of a girl taken off the street into a world of love and sincerity she has never known before.
