Dr D. G. M'Millan, M.P., has been elected chairman of the Health Committee of the House of Representatives* Mr H. L. Cranswick, new business superintendent of the A.M.P. Society, accompanied by Mr H. W. Piper, New; Zealand supervisor, returned north yesterday after a business visit to Invercargill and Dunedin. ■'* Mr J, Edwin Orr, secretary of the. Revival Fellowship of Great Britain,; who is conducting a series of meetings in Dunedin this week, arrived by yesterday afternoon’s express from the north.

Surgeon-lieutenant A. C. Horne, of Dunedin, has been appointed dental officer to H.M.S. Achilles on loan to the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy for three years. _ At the meeting of the Otago Provincial Council of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday afternoon, the president (Mr R. J. E. Smith)' presented Mr A. C. Cameron with a gold wristlet watch in recognition, of the services rendered by him to the union during the six years in which he had filled tho position of provincial secretary. Several speakers referred to the outstanding qualities of organisation and energy which Mr Cameron had brought to his duties, and expressed to him the thanks of farmers generally. At the annual meeting of the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society, held yesterday afternoon, reference was made to the death of Mr J. B. Shacklock, who had been a very old member of the society., Recently the teachers of the Northeast Valley School met to bid farewell to a popular member of the staff, Miss Kennedy, who has been appointed to the position of infant mistress in the Green Island School. The head master (Mr Parr) referred in eugolistic terms to Miss Kennedy’s work as a teacher. Ho expressed his own good wishes and those of the staff for Miss Kennedy’s success at Green Island. Mr Parr then presented Miss Kennedy with a lizard skin hand hag as a token of esteem and goodwill from her fellow teachers. Miss Kennedy returned thanks and referred to the happy friendships which she had cultivated in North-east Valiev, and expressed her regret that the road to promotion led her away from her muchvalued friends. Prior to the close of the school on the_ same day, Miss Kennedy was the recipient of a number of presents from pupils of the various classes with which her work brought her into touch. The members of the Wellington Drapers’ Association entertained at dinner the delegates to the conference of tho New Zealand Federation of Drapers, Clothiers, and Boot Retailers. Opportunity was taken at the social gathering following the dinner- to recognise the great services which Mr William Simm, of Wellington, manager of the D.1.C., had rendered to the drapery trade throughout New Zealand during the last 16 years as chairman of the Advisory Board. Mr,Simm was presented with a silver tea and coffee service_ and salver, suitably inscribed. Sir Herbert Hart has been appointed representative of the War Graves Commission in the territory between Cairo and Constantinople. The headquarters are at present at Cairo. He will leave for England about May 20. —Masterton Press Association telegram. A Press Association cable message from London states that the King has approved the appointment of Mr M. J. 1 Savage as Privy Councillor. A Christchurch Press Association telegram records the death of Mr H. C. Lane, secretary of the Canterbury Education Board for 29 years, at the age of 77. He retired in 1924. Latest registrations at the Grand Hotel include Mr C. J. Wiley (Sydney), Mr H. H, Newton, Mr W. H. Shrubsal! (Wellington), Mr I. B. Macken (Na- - pier), and Mr and Mrs D. L. Robison (Christchurch). Guests at the City Hotel are Mr J. W. Doull, Mr C. Brown (Auckland), Mr and Mrs I. Reid (Wellington), Mr and Mrs A. C. Lajng (Christchurch), Mr W. Bryant (Ashburton), Mr H. Lake (Timaru), Mr J. Burton (Oamam), and Mrs K. Rodger (Tapanui).
