THE SESSION
ANOTHER MONTH’S SITTING MANY IMPORTANT POLICY QUESTIONS TO-NIGHT'S DEBATE [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, April 29. In view of the fact that the Government has' still several major policyquestions that it has to translate into legislation, indications are that it will be the end of May before the House rises for its brief recess to give the Government breathing space prior to introducing its financial statement and Estimates and the routine business that requires the consideration of the House. The Prime Minister stated to-day that, in addition to legislation already before the House, measures dealing with mortgage adjustment arising out of the plan of guaranteed prices would have to be placed) on the Statute Book before the House adjourned. He was not certain yet whether this particular class of legislation would require one Bill or two Bills, but he emphasised the necessity of having it passed into law as soon as possible. Another important piece of legislation shortly to be introduced was a measure dealing with the question of rents, a subject, said Mr Savage, that required urgent attention. It had been shown recently that the existing legislation# was quite inadequate to meet the position that had arisen. Transport legislation was also urgently needed, and) the Transport Bill which was in charge of Mr Semple was almost ready for _ introduction. Keen interest is expected to be shown in the opening of the second reading of the debate oh the Primary Products Marketing Bill, which is set down for this evening. The Minister of Finance will open the discussion and will be followed by Mr Coates, former Minister of Finance. Mr Atmore and the Prime Minister will be the other speakers. All the speeches will be broadcast over national stations.
