LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

SERVICE IN CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH A large-representation of the Dunedin branch of tne League of Mothers attended Divine worship at Moray Place Congregational Church last Sunday evening. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. M. Isitt. 8.A., during .. which the choir rendered the anthem ‘ Great Is the Lord,’ and the solo, Parry’s ‘ Jerusalem,’ was sung by Mr Vernon B. Smith. Addressing the mothers present, Mr Isitt, took as his' text: “If, ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall-your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him.” “Most, of, us who are uarents,” said the minister, “ become discouraged by oilr faults, and, in middle age, tend. to ‘ settle down.’ As our children grow _jip, with the laudable desires that they shall be prevented from entering into th# same pitfalls as we have done and possessing the same weaknesses as we do, they are sent, perhaps, to Sunday school. And we fully expect, in that one hour a week, that they will learn something about _ God and spiritual things.. But this is impossible for them . if God_ is not in the home. There is a sense in which we are 1 God ’ to our children. How can they know what God is like if their parents are not kind, loving, truthful, and honest—both with them and with each other? We cannot convey to others that which we have not received and do not possess for ourselves; We must, therefore, commence with ourselves by reciving His gift, which is the Holy Spirit, so that we may surround our , children with that atmosphere of truth, kindness, and love which shall ever bring them closer to God. Only thus will our homes become truly united—each member united with the other and united with Him.”
