'HERE COMES THE BAND'
BRIGHT PRODUCTION FOR ST. JAMES A picture that probably sets _ th* record for the amount of music in a single entertainment is the latest feat from Hollywood. In line with the growing popularity of light music on the screen, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer filmed ‘ Here Comes the Band.’, which opens at the St. James on : Friday. in which 75 per cent, of all sound track contains harmony in special numbers, sequences, or underscoring. Feataring Ted Lewis and his orchestra, together with the new singer, Harry Stockwell, the film follows the fortunes of an Army band from the armistice to 1935. In radio. Armistice Day reunion, parade, and. other scenes the music is introduced. Songs, comedy specialties, and other novelties are woven into the main theme. Some of them are ‘ Headin’ Home,’ ‘ Roll Along, Prairia Moon,’ • ‘ 'You’re My Thrill,’ and others which have been favourites in their day. The band is reported to stir an audience with its full-toned orchestration. while the acting of the few principals rounds out an entertainment of merit. Ted Lewis and Harry Stockwell are assisted by Virginia Bruce, star of ‘ Jane Eyre,’ ‘ Shadow of Doubt,’ and other recent successes, Ted Healy and Nat Pendleton, who set audience* laughing at them in ‘ Murder in tha Fleet.’
