For the purpose of augmenting the funds of the North-east Valley Dominican Nuns a well-attended concert in the Empire Theatre was held on Sunday evening under the direction of Signor and Signora Giovanni Stella. The programme was of a delightfully diversified nature, and included a leavening of operatic airs. The entertainment was obviously relished by the audience, the performers all responding with recall numbers. The following contributed to the programme:—Miss June Holmes, Madame Mona Stone, Miss Lucy M'lntosh, Signor Stella, Mr Thomas Kennedy, Mr John Devereux (songs); St. Joseph’s Orphanage Band (conductor, Mr D. Whelan) ; Miss Mollie Baker (recitation) ; Miss Joan Stewart (piano solo); and Miss Anna Briasco (violin solo). Signora Stella was the accompanist to the vocalists. First Boarder: “I say, old man, what’s the idea of wearing ray overcoat?” Second Boarder : Well, you don’t want your new suit to get wet, do you ?”
