ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

KILLED CROSSING ROAD. While crossing Rerauera road to use the telephone at the Remuera Post Office, Auckland, Mrs Gertrude Atkinson, aged 46, was knocked down by a light delivery van last night and killed. The van, which was driven by Willie Wong, a Chinese butcher, of Manukau road, Epsom, was travelling toward Newmarket. Mrs Atkinson had left her cake and confectionery business, which is on the southern side, and had almost reached the inward tramlines . when she was struck and thrown heavily, the vehicle passing over her. The impact badly damaged the radjator grid of the van. The woman suffered a fracture of the skull and death occurred almost immediately.

CRUSHED UNDER ROCK FALL, An accident occurred near Glenorchy on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the death of John William Jonas Clmgm, a scheelite miner, aged 34. He was a married man, and resided at^ Glenorchy. Clingin, with a William Ernest Tyree, was working in an open shaft picking scheelite. Tyree walked over to his coat to see the time. Suddenly ,a fall of rock weighing about one ton crashed down on top of Clmgm, who was killed instantly. Tyree was unable to extricate him, and gave the alarm, assistance being rendered by several residents. STRUCK BY GOODS TRAIN. A Tauranga Association message states that Roy Devon, aged 46, was fatally injured last night, when he was struck by a Taneatua-Tauranga goods train on the harbour bridge and hurled into the harbour. Devon was walking across the bridge to Matapihi, and met the engine on the bend m the bridge. Before he had time to move he was struck. The accident was witnessed by several who went to Devon s assistance in boats. He was taken from the water to the town wharf and attendee by Dr .Mark, who ordered his removal to hospital, but he died in the ambulance on the journey. He had received extensive injuries to the right shoulder and side. He is survived by his wife and eumib a&e Ifee-at Mmsm*
