NEW FIRE-FIGHTING EQUIPMENT
The accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
The Wellington Fire Board lias departed entirely from the usual practice in fire-fighting equipment, and has now put into commission a complete closed-in van, carrying a driver and officer and loin* firemen, and equipped with quick, accessible lockers for carrying salvage equipment. The salvage equipment includes waterproof sheets to protect stock from water damage, brooms, mops, sawdust, breathing equipment, and all equipment necessary for dealing with general cleaning up after fires, and for saving water damage while the fires are being extinguished. This machine is something entirely new so far as New Zealand fire-fighting equipment is concerned, and is designed very much on the lines of fire-fighting equipment overseas. This machine, as well as being a salvage wagon, carries a good range or general fire-fighting equipment, and is being used in Wellington as the second turn-out machine.
