BOARD OF BIRECTORS The first meeting of the Hoard of Directors of the Y.M.C.A. for 1936 was held on Monday, there being present Messrs J. L. Salmoud (in the chair), W. Stevenson, E. R. Grace, A. Lauren--Bou, 11. C. Henderson, .1. li. Waters, A. Martin, D. K. Macdonald, T. Hilliker, C. M'Kinnon, 0. J. Darracott, F. Hrceze. and the general secretary (Mr J. H. Don Miller). A review of the year ending February 29 was made, and it was considered that one of the association's best years was closing. In all departments there had been increased membership, and results were encouraging. One of the features of the year had been the great success of the boys’ camp at Whnre Flat. Through the help of Rotary Club, Patriotic and Welfare League, and gifts of provisions from many firms it had been possible to take in a large number of boys free. Some of the improvements in physique reported upon by the boys’ work director, Mr G. R. Pitkethley. were remarkable. Individual increases were: —Height— 1 7-Bin ! during four weeks and l]in (luring two Weeks. Weight—l4‘lb during five weeks; P2Jlh during two weeks. The average increase in height was Jin, am! in weight 41b. Tho moral and spiritual benefits derived from tho morning -devotions, daily thoughts, cabin vespers, Sunday services in the chapel, and confidences given while out on walks were such that they might never be truly ganged. A very delinitf spirit pervaded all the activities durinfe tne entire period, and the wonderful friendship between boys , and their leaders and the entire co-operation of all, helped in no small measure towards the smooth running of the camp. The special services were Held in memory of His Majesty King George V. On January 1-5 over 30 members of the Rotary Club visited the camp, and after being welcomed by the boys and shown over the camp, played in a cricket match. The majority stayed for ] tea, and their visit was greatly appreciated by the boys. Toe JL visited the camp and rendered a genuine service by running an evening concert. Many parents and friends also visited tlie camp on visiting days ami were deeply appreciative of the care taken in looking after their hoys. Great activity was being shown in the boys' department, all the primary
and some secondary schools of Dunedin having been visited and boys in groups coming to the building. The physical* director, Mr 0. W. Postgate, reported that the equipment was in first-class order for the opening on March 1. and enrolments were rapidly coming in. A squad had performed at tho Caledonian shorts. The baths were being used by greatly increasing numbers. The hostel was full. There were manv students and apprentices from tlte country entering residence.
