NEW HOSPITAL FOR AUCKLAND
SOD BEDS PLANNED [l'm United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 25. The rebuilding of the Auckland Hospital on its present site, involving the gradual but complete removal of the existing buildings and their replacement by modern accommodation, forms the basis of recommendations made by a special committee to the Auckland Hospital Board at a meeting to-day. A summary of the princiipal findings of the committee is as follows: —That the time has arrived for the provision of a complete modern hospital to serve the needs of the Auckland Hospital Board district: that the present site, but not the buildings, is ideal for the purpose; that the requirements should be limited to approximately 800 active beds for all cases, excluding infectious disease and children’s beds; that not more than 200 recovery home beds should be provided, preferably on the same sit; that adequate facilities should be provided for other auxiliary services, such as an intermediate hospital, a chronic hospital, convalescent homes, and a chest hospital. In more detail the committee recommended the building of a chest bosp : - tal on the present infirmary site, although not necessarily immediately.
