GOOD COMEDY DRAMA
ENTERTAINING FARE FOR REGENT * Hands Across the Table,’ which will start on Friday at the .Regent, is said to be another of those amusing entertainments that yet possess a logical basis and are most agreeably revelatory of human nature in its more expansive and lighter moments. With the aid of scintillating dialogue, realistic characterisation oy Carole Lombard, Fred Mac Murray, and Ralph Bellamy, the director (Michael Liesen) has given an admirable film of everyday life that is said to be irresistible in its appeal. The heroine of ‘ Hands Across the Table ’ is a manicurist—hence the title—and Carole Lombard is said to prove that light comedy is definitely her forte. She is admirably supported by all others in the cast. The entertainment value of the new programme is doubled by the inclusion in it of ‘ At the Bottom of the World,’ This is a vivid camera record of Rear-admiral Byrd's second Antarctic expedition, and all the excitement, hardships, and daring have been captured by the two cameramen who spent the entire 18 months with Byrd and his men. This film is much more than a more travelogue, for an absorbing drama has been woven into it, particularly in the sequences showing Byrd’s heroic lonely vigil.
