ST. KILDA MAYORALTY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l was surprised to read that a representative deputation of St. Kilda ratepayers had waited upon Mr J. J. Marlow with a request that he should be a candidate at jthe approaching mayoral by-election. The argument put forward by Cr Glue that a candidate was required who was not a member of the present council has much to commend it on the score of expense alone. However, Cr Glue went further and stated that Mr Marlow was the oldest living former mayor of the borough, and that the present council had been unanimous in choosing him for nomination and in asking tlie_ electors to support him. If the unanimity of the present council on this matter is due to the fact that Mr Marlow is the oldest living former mayor, there is little that can be said in favour of its choice I trust that on election day ratepayers will have the of choosing between a young, progressive candidate and Mr Marlow.—l am, etc., Advance St. Kilda.
