CLOUDY—SCATTERED RAIDS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern district—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— Pressure is high to the east, but a depression is approaching the Norjfi Island from the Tasman Sea. Forecast; Moderate southerly winds, freshening. Weather cloudy and misty, with scattered rains. Seas moderate, UNSETTLED WEEK-END. Fresh north-easterly winds threatened to cause a return of the recent' rainy weather on Saturday, when the sunshine of the morning was obscured in the afternoon, while the evening was cool and misty. The weather cleared overnight, and it was warm and sunny, for the greater part of yesterday, until a terrific thunderstorm in, the late afternoon, during which a quarter of an inch of rain descended in little more than half an hour. After a starry night it was again hot and sunny up till noon to-day, but it became overcast in the afternoon. The barometer was steady at 29.9 in, unaltered from noon on Saturday, and the thermometer reading was 66deg at noon and 62.9c1eg three hours earlier. The 24hour figures for Saturday and Sunday, were 65deg and 58.6 deg, 74deg and 56.9 deg.
