WHOLESALE RESIGNATIONS

PROFESSIONAL STAFF OF HOSPITAL [Per United Press Association.] GREYMOUTH, February 23. Following the resignation of the medical superintendent (Dr J. W. Bridgman) and the matron (Miss N J. Sullivan), a special meeting of the Grey Hospital Board was held last night to deal with the resignations of six of the . eight nursing sisters at the hospital, who gave a month’s notice and jointly requested the board to refrain from asking them to appear before it to discuss the matter. They further intimated that under the conditions they felt they could not carry on in their positions. A sub-committee recently conducted an inquiry into the administration of the hospital, and, following the board’s refusal on a majority vote to accept the voluntary resignation of a nurse who resumed duty, the medical superintendent tendered his resignation, - to take effect in three months.' The matron then resigned on Friday night, leaving the next day for Wellington. The resignations of the sisters were received yesterday morning. The hoard decided by a majority of 6 to 4 to ask the sisters to state the reasons for their resignation, an amendment by the chairman that the medical superintendent and the sisters be asked to withdraw their resignations being defeated

A member of the board (Mr James B. Kent) also intimated his intention of resigning, as he felt that he was wasting his time on the board under the exising conditions.
