PROTESTANT ALLIANCE

Triumph Lodge, No. 9, held its fortnightly meeting in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Kensington. W.M. Bro. John Cosgrove presided over a good attendance of members and»visitors from sister lodges. The W.G.M., Bro. J. Lindsay, P.G.M., Bro. Harvey, G. irustees, Wor. M. Bros. Devlin, Hellyer, and Sincock, were welcomed. Two candidates were admitted, the initiation ceremony being conducted by the W.M., assisted by his officers, Chaplain Sister Mathewson, D.M. Bro. Peppered, and P.M. Bro. Weir. The lodge then closed to enable the W.M. to receive President Bro. Hunt, with his officers, and delegates of the Otago United Friendly Societies’ Council. _ The W.G.M.. Bro. James Lindsay, introduced the visitors, who were received with musical honours by Piper Bro. M‘Millan. The -W.M., Bro. John Cosgrove, conveyed to President Bro. Hunt and colleagues a hearty welcome on behalf of the officers and members of the Triumph Lodge._ President Bro. Hunt, in reply, said they were present to do honour to one of their highly esteemed members, P.M. Bro. E. H. Sincock, who had ably filled the position of president of the Otago United Friendly Societies’ Council during the past year. He then handed to Bro. Sincock, as past president, the O.U.F.S.C. merit board, to be placed in the lodge room during the coming year. Vice-president Bro. A. M'lndoe, of the Rechabites, congratulated the past president on the good work he had done during his term for the benefit of friendly societies. Bro. J. K. Macfie, A.0.F., also spoke, and the secretary of the dispensary and the Otago U.F.B. Council said that past president Bro. Sincock had been a great worker*, and he congratulated him on the honours conferred upon him. Bro. Robertson, 1.0.0. F., also complimented the past president on the manner in which he had carried out his duties. Past-president Bro. Gillick, of the Hibernian Order, spoke on the general work of friendly societies, and said he appreciated the work done by the past president and congratulated him and the order which he had the honour to represent. Bro. Calvert, of the M.U.1.0.0.F., also praised the work of the president during his term of office. Bro. Sincock, in reply, said he had given of his best in the interest of friendly societies, and he was proud of the position he had held and of the honour to the lodge which he represented. During the evening the Social Committee presented the following programme:—Dance in Highland costume, Miss L. Ross and N. M'Millan; songs, Mr Dunbar; dance, Miss M. Stevens; song, Mrs Mathewson. The acccftnpanists were Piper M'Millan. Mrs Devlin, and Mrs Tavendale (at the piano). During recess supper was seryed by P.M. Bro. Hodges and his assistants. Bro. Gillick returned thanks to the W; Master, Bro. J. Cosgrove, and wished Triumph Lodge every success in the future.
