Baroness Burton, of London, and her husband, Major W. E. Melles, are at , present engaged on a tour of the Dominion and will arrive in Dunedin on Friday. Mr Andrew S. Fleming, of Melbourne. is at present visiting Dunedin. The Rev. L. B. Neale left for Christchurch to-day to attend the Metholist conference.
Mr D. C. Cameron left for the north to-day on a visit to Christchurch and Palmerston North. At the monthly meeting of the Holy, Cross Church Vestry the churchwarden, Mr P. J. Priest, expressed the thanks of the vestry and parishioners for the many years of faithful service rendered to the Parish of St. Kilda by their vicar, Rev, A. Wingfield, who is retiring, and leaves shortly for WellingtonColonel W. B. Clayton, of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, formerly Director of Dental Services for Canada, was expected to arrive in Dunedin today in the course of a tour of the Dominion.
Mr Francis Farr, of Mosgiel, has received the following communication, dated December 29, from Buckingham Palace:—“The equerry of H.R.H7 the Duke of Gloucester has been directed by His Royal Highness to thank Mr -Francis Farr for his kind Christmas wishes which their Royal Highnesses greatly appreciated.” _ At the monthly meeting of the Mosgiel District High School Committee, the chairman (Mr G. Rutherford) referred to the death of Mrs M'Donald (East Taieri) and Master Kingan, a pupil. Mrs M'Donald was the mother of Miss M'Donald of the teaching staff. Bishop Liston left for Christchurch by the express to-day. He will taka part in the festivities there in connection with the golden jubilee of the Mount Magdala Home, and the opening of the new orphanage, after which he will proceed on his way back to Auckland.
Hon. P. Waite left this morning for Wellington to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Mr G. A. Hamilton, president of the Southland executive of the union, travelled by the express to attend the same meeting:
Mr J. J. Rogers left this morning on his return to Auckland. Mr Colin M'lntosh, who has been in Dunedin for a meeting of the Farm Accounting Association, left this morning on his return to Christchurch. Mr J. Sutherland Ross was a passenger by the express this morning, being bound for Wellington. A Press Association cable message from Sydney states that Dr Herbert Robert Seddon, director of the Glenfield Veterinary Research Station since 1923. has been appointed Professor of Veterinnrv Science at Brisbane University. He will also undertake work in the stock branch. He was born at Tauranga and educated at Auckland Grammar School, Latest registrations at the Grand Hotel include Mrs Hilda Powell. Mr and Mrs R. S.
