CHURCH AND STATE
CONFLICT IN GERMANY NAZIS AGAIN ACTIVE Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright BERLIN. February 11. (Received February 12, at 10.10 a.m.) The Church and State conflict is again coming into the foreground. The secret police struck another blow at Catholic youth organisations when they arrested Monseignor Volker, the president, also about 50 other impoitant officials. It is believed that the arrests reflect Nazi impatience over the compromise by the church, on the youth question, and are regarded as a step towards suppression of all lay Catholic activity. CARDINAL DENOUNCES NAZISM THOUSANDS CROWD MUNICH STREETS. MUNICH, February 11. (Received February 12, at 10.30 a.m.) Two of the largest churches in Munich were crowded to hear Cardinal Faulhaber denounce the anti-Catholic tendencies of Nazism and the unchristian influence brought to bear on youthful members of the Nazi Party. The sermon was relayed from the church in which the cardinal preached. Thousands waited to see the cardinal and ex-Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria arrive. The streets were impassable. Isolated individuals attempting to shout “ Heil Hitler” were quickly suppressed.
