ULYSSES IN GALE
DEATH OF THREE SEAMEN EYE-WITNESS'S DESCRIPTION .e;6M Automation—By Telegraph—Copyright PERTH, February 12. (Received February 12, at 12.30 p.m.) A graphic description of the gale* which resulted in three seamen being killed and four others badly injured was given by passengers on the Ulysses, which has arrived at Fremantle. An eye-witness said that on the night they left Liverpool heavy* seas damaged the forecastle, eight men being deputed to repair the damage. The mate went to the prow, and with a whistle warned the seamen of particularly dangerous waves. At each blast the men dashed back to safety. When the work was almost completed a tremendous wall of water broke over the men before they could reach coyer, and they. were smashed against the deck, three being killed outright. The Ulysses made for Swansea, but, owing to* the huge seas, the bodies of the injured men could not be sent ashore until next day.
