AMERICAN SHIPPING PROPOSAL. —An architect’s sketch of one of two giant liners which, it has been proposed, should be built for the United States. The estimated cost of each ship is in the vicinity of 50 million dollars, and, if carried out, both vessels should he completed hy the end of 1930. Planned primarily for the transport of tourists to and from Europe, they will have a speed of 34 knots and a displacement of 100 000 tons. A further proposal is to the effect that facilities for quick conversion into .troop earners will be incorporated in the design, enabling each vessel to accommodate 20,000 troops and an air force squadron.
