MANCHESTER UNITY

The fortnightly meeting of -Loyal Centenary Lodge was held in the vt esley Street Hall on Monday evening, N.G. Bro. J. G. Peake presiding. The following officers were elected; —N.G., Bro. J. G. Peake; V.G., W. Davidson; E.S., A. Parker; warden, B. Scott; guardian. J. E. Garnithers; G.M., E. Harrison. Two nominations for membership were received. The annual balance sheet was read and adopted. A slight increase in each of the various funds was recorded, the sickness experience beyig reasonable, although slightly in excess of the previous year. The sick and funeral fund now stands at £4.044. Following the conclusion of business Bros. Hartstonge and Peake entertained members at a trump whist evening, Bro. C. Lundquist winning the trophy. A vote of thanks was accorded the hosts. At the fortnightly meeting of Loyal Caversliam Lodge, held on Wednesday evening, N.G. Bro. Y. Parker presided over a fair attendance of members. Immediately after the opening of the lodge all present stood in silence when the. following motion was passed:— “ That this meeting of Oddfellows places on record its deep and sincere sorrow at the loss the Empire has sustained through the death of our illustrious King George V.” Mourning was also observed during the meeting, and the lodge adjourned for a few minutes as a mark of respect. At the resumed annual summoned meeting the annual balance sheet was presented and adopted. The sick pay disbursed during the year was heavy, being £1,035 10s 6d, an increase of £43 on last year; nevertheless, the sick and funeral fund (£21,373) shows a gain of £3Ol for the jieriod. Both the hall and management funds made satisfactory in- , creases. The membership of the lodge is 424. The report made appreciative reference to the work of the Euchre Committee, through whose efforts a number of improvements had been made to the lodge room and the furniture. The secretary (Bro. .1. List) and officers were again congratulated on their painstaking efforts on behalf of the lodge. For some time the lodge has bad under consideration' the holding of an outing for members and their families, and it was decided to hold this on February 0. Arrangements were completed for the first official visit of the year from,sister lodges next lodge night. There was a trood attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Albion held in the

M.U. Hall on Thursday evening, N.G. Bro. N. Hay presiding. Mourning was observed anil a resolution of condolence passed expressing deep sorrow at the passing of His late Majesty King George. The meeting also adjourned for a short period. The P.C. secretary wrote advising that the halfyearly degree meeting would be held in Hand and Heart Lodge. Under the summoned meetin" the annual report and balance sheet were dealt with. In moving the adoption of the balance sheet. P.P.G.M. Bro. P. W. Stabb stated that it was one of the most satisfactory the lodge had had for some time, and congratulated members on the fine position disclosed. The sick and funeral funds showed fair- increases, while the sickness experience was reasonable. The management fund also made good headway. Sick pay expended during the year amounted to £759 Ids 4d. Bro. Longworth also spoke. Reference was made to the very satisfactory work of the permanent secretary (Bro. A. G. Monk) and treasurer (Bro. S. G. Smith), the latter having held that office for close on dO years. P.P.G.M. Bro. It. S. Black referred to the gain in membership for the year, and said it was very gratifying to see the present figures (464), which represented a gain of 22 for the year. He trusted they would this year go up to the 500 mark. The lodge is now the second largest in the Otago district. Mention was also made of the excellent manner in which the trustees bad controlled the lodge’s investments. A_ presentation of a framed emblematical certificate and a past grand’s collar was made to P.G. Bro. L. James in appreciation of his services to the lodge while passing through the chairs. Three nominations for membership were received.
