(Received January 10, at 10.30 a.m.) “ We have greater reason to hope for success than ever before,” Mr Buttledge told the ‘ Daily Telegraph ’ when recounting the Mount Everest party’s preparations. “ The team consists of first rate men, 10 of whom have had previous Himalayan experience. One great objective will be to place an additional camp higher than the highest camp in 1933 and a good deal nearer the summit—probably within 1,200 ft. Even from the additional camp it will take the party about 15 hours to reach the summit and return. The climbers will have half an hour at the top at the most.” Mr Ruttledge leaves for India on January 31, and the expedition starts from Kalimpong, Bengal, on March 20.
