MANCHESTER UNITY
At the summoned meeting of the Loyal Roxburgh Lodge there was a lull attendance of officers and members pie sided over by N.G. Bros. J. RWaigth. The following officers were elected for the ensuing terra;—G.M., J. R. Waigth; N.G., E. S. Dunlay, V.G.. D. R. Broad; E.b., *>. Ij. George; warden, J. G- Pearson. P P.&.M. Bro. R. S. Black, who was on a holiday visit to the district, was present, and later installed the new officers. In the course of his reply to the visitors’ toast, Bro. Black gave an interesting acc'ount of some ot ms travels abroad. Before the meeting closed the N.G. conveyed greetings to the members, and P.G. Bro. J. George, on behalf of the senior members, congratulated the young officers on their diligence and enthusiasm. At the annual summoned meeting or the Loyal Tapanui Lodge the N.G., Bro. R. Webb, presided over a largo attendance of members. Two candidates were initiated. The half-yearly election of officers resulted:—-G.M., Bro. R. Webb; N.G., T. Williams; V.G., R. Ellett; E.S., J. Simpson; warden, D. Potts; guardian, A. Edgar. The retiring G.M., Bro. D. Ritchie, acted as installing officer, and was assisted by P.G.’s J. L. Wylie, E. Arnold, F. Hancox, W. Hancox, and A. Fleming. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers, and it was decided to grant an emblematical certificate to the immediate past grand master. One nomination for membership was received. At the close of the lodge the newly-elected N.G. entertained members to supper, P.G. Bro. J. L. Wylie returning thanks on behalf of the lodge. There was a good attendance of members at the annual summoned meeting of the Loyal Middlemarch Lodge when the installation of officers was carried out by P.G.s Bros. A. E. Glover and J. Schluter (Timaru). Seasonal greetings , were received from the Loyal Hand and Heart (Dunedin) Lodge and an pm her of brethren. Sister M. Harding was appointed publicity officer for the lodge. An apology for absence was received from the P.G.M., Bro. J. D. Cameron, who expressed regret at not being able to carry out the installation. Appreciation was expressed at the attendance of P.G. Bro. Schluter, who was on his annual visit from Timaru. In responding the visitor’expressed pleasure at the progress the lodge had made during the 12 months, and also congx-atulated the officers on the admirable manner in which the ceremony of initiation had been carried out.
The Loyal Tuapeka Pioneer Lodge hold its first meeting of the current year at Lawrence, when there was a good attendance of officers and brethren. The installation of the officers who were elected at the annual summoned meeting was conducted by P.P.G.M. Bro.‘ A. L. Hart, who installed Bros. Fleming, Cummings, Smolensk!, and Gare in their respective chairs. A discussion took place regarding the lodge merit board, and it was decided to go into the matter to see if some improvement could be made.
