BOXER DETAINED
BREACH OF CONTRACT ALLEGED ESCORTED ASHORE FROM MARIPOSA Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, January 8. Mr Justice Nicholas to-day granted an application by Charles Lucas, a boxing promoter, for a writ of care directed against the Dutch boxer Bop Van Klaveren, who, it was alleged,,was leaving by the Mariposa for America to-day. It was reported that Klaveren, accompanied by his wife, was escorted ashore a few minutes before the Mariposa sailed. The application arose out of a writ for £2,000 issued by Lucas against Klaveren for alleged breach of contract, Lucas stating that Klaveren had agreed to take part in five more fights. Lucas further alleged that Klaveren’s wife had said: “1 am homesick, and that is all about it.” John Adolphus Clark, who claims to have been Klaveren’s manager in Australia, is also bringing an action for £172 damages.
