SYDNEY HARD ARRIVES
O.S.K. EXTENDED SERVICE INCLUSION OF NEW ZEALAND With the blood-red rising sun of Japan fluttering from the flagstaff aft, the Osaka Shoson Kaisha motor vessel, Sydney Maru, arrived at- Dunedin this morning from Japan and Australia on the first voyage of the company’s extended service. It is intended later to inaugurate a direct service between New Zealand and Japan. The voyage commenced at Yokohama on November 25, the vessel later calling at Ngoya, Osaka, Kobe, and Moji before proceeding to Hongkong, thence Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart. Fine weather was experienced all the wav, and the Sydney Maru arrived off the Heads early this morning. After the medical inspection she' came to Dunedin, and was berthed at Rattray street wharf to discharge about 130 tons of Eastern cargo and to take in local produce. She is to sail to-morrow for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland, after which she will call at Sydney and Brisbane en route for Kobe and Yokohama.'' A vessel of 6,425 tons gross, the Sydney Maru was built in 1929 by the Yokohama Dock Company. She is 380 ft in length with a beam of 54ft and a depth of 34ft. The ship’s company numbers 49. Captain S. Nomura is in command, and his officers are :—Chief, E. Yasuda; second, T. Masuda; third, F. Okino; chief engineer, Y. Kanno; first, Y. Horiliara; second, M. Fujita; third, A. Sadaknne; fourth, T. Nagano; fifth, K. Okano; surgeon, Dr Wataabe; wireless operator, 1. Hattori; purser, S. Ocndu.
