m DAVID BROWN The death occurred yesterday. after a long illness, of Mr David Brown, manager of the job printing department of The ‘ Evening -Star ’ Co. Ltd. Deceased, who came to New Zealand from Scotland as a lad of eight years, lived with relatives in Timaru and was educated there, afterwards entering into the service of the 4 Timaru Her-
aid ’ Company. About 20 years ago he came to Dunedin to take up his position with the ‘ Star ’ _ Company, and carried, out his duties till about a year ago, when illness overtook him. A prominent and enthusiastic bowler, the late Mr Brown was a popular member of the'Dunedin Bowling Club, and was well known amongst , Otago players. For some years he was a member ol the committee of the Dunedin Master Printeis’ Association, and was president for a term. Of a quiet and unassuming disposition, he was held in the highest esteem by his many friends. Deceased is survived by his widow. | MR J. W. KYDD The death is announced of Mr John William Kydd, formerly of Heriot, after i short illness. Mr Kydd. who was in his 75th year, was highly respected in the district. He was the eldest Ison of Mr David Alexander Kydd, iof Sutberlandshire, Scotland. 1 He came to New Zealand in 1881 in the ship Stirling, and was employed on the Moa flat Station for a number of years, i Later he was employed by the Tuapelfii County Council for over 20 years, resigning from his position in 1916 ahd removing to Dunedin. Mr Kydd leaves a widow and a grown-up family iof eight children, three daughters aid live sons. Two of. his sons foughti in .the Great War. I BLENHEIM, January 6. The flcath has occurred of Mr Thomas Williaii Patchett, a member of the MarlbcrougH ‘ Express ’ staff, who had a remarkable record of service. He was associated with Blenheim newspapers as printer for 50 years, and was 45 years a member of the ‘ Express ’ staff; and in! that period he missed only half a day [through illness. The family is very widely known and respected.
