A revolver duel between the police and a map suspected of having shot and critically wounded Constable John Terbutt, near the central railway station,, on *New Yearis Day, took place ;n a house in the suburb of Waterloo to-day ,1 The suspect, James Penrose, aged IS, who is known to the police as_ ‘‘ the hoy gunman,” realising that resistance was futile, shot himself dead through the temple, , A police cordon was thrown round the house where Penrose was hidings He was the leader of a gang of hoo-i----gans, and had confided to his associate! that he would not be taken alive.' When detectives burst into the house Penrose opened fire. The detective* also fired, but both missed. Xhan, before there could' be any further exchange of shots, Penrose turned tl* gun on himself- •
