Yesterday was the first anniversary of Archbishop Redwood’s death, and Solemn Requiem Mass was held in St. Mary of the 'Angels Pro-cathedral in Wellington. Madden,; ‘chief postmaster at Dunedin, has been appointed chief postmaster at Wellington in place of Mr J. M. M'Lean, who has retired on' superannuation. Mr Madden commenced his service with the Post and Telegraph Department in the Dunedin office in 1901, and after six months was transferred to the accountant’s branch, at the head office. After 20 years of service in this branch he was appointed , supervisor of the parcels ' in Wellington, and later to a similar position in Auckland. He spent about two years in each -of these positions, and was then appointed superintendent of mails at Auckland and later at Wellington. About 1933 he was appointed chief postmaster at Wanganui,; and a year later was appointed chief postmaster at Dunedin, where he arrived in November, 1934.
