HO OVERTURES FDR SETTLEMENT PICKETS PATROLLING SYDNEY WHARVES press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, December 13. Following a conference with officials of the Sydney Labour Council and a delegation from the seamen, the two visiting representatives of the ■ Australian Council of Trade to-day recommended all affiliated unions to provide financial assistance for the seamen strikers. Further meetings of the executives of those unions likely to be affected by the strike will be held in Sydney and Melbourne on Monday. In the meantime no overtures for a settlement of the strike are likely to be made. Pickets are patrolling the wharves and shipping offices. The Seamen’s Union in the Higher Court to-day for an injunction against the Commonwealth, claiming that, the Transport - Workers Act and regulations were ultra vires of the Constitution; Mr Justice Evatt, before whom the matter was mentioned, fixed the hearing of the application for Monday before the full High Court. CREWS FOR TWELVE FREIGHTERS THE WAIRUNA TO SAIL. SYDNEY, December 13. Although the shipowners report a slackening in the number of qualified men offering for employment, a sufficient number of men, have been engaged for at least 12 freighters at three Australian ports, and their sailing has been fixed for tho week-end. The Wairuna is due to sail to-mor-row, for San Francisco. The delegates of the Australian Railways Union will assemble on Monday to discuss the strike and formulate a policy in the event of an extension.
