INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE

The monthly meeting of the Executive Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture was held recently, when there were present Dr W. R. B. Oliver (chairman) Captain Sanderson, Messrs Pope, Waugh, Dallas, Hyde, and the secretary. The Examining Board of the institute recommended—“ That a gold medal be presented annually to the best student, in the opinion of the Examining Board, in the diploma examination, but that no award is to be made if it is considered that there is no candidate of sufficient merit.” The recommendation was adopted as a memorial to tho late Dr Cockayne. The Canterbury Horticultural Society notified its acceptance of the competition in duo course for the Bledisloe (fruit) Cup. Consideration of tlio draft annual report and balance sheet was held over pntil next meeting. District Council minutes were read and received.
