She is due at Port Chalmers on December 22 for annual survey. Holmdale was expected this afternoon from Wellington. She is to sail tonight for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. ; Breeze is due from Wellington tomorrow morning, and is to sail later in the day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wei- ( lington, Picton, and Wanganui. Wingatui is due from Auckland via ports on Friday evening, and is to sail on Saturday for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. Holmglen is due from Port Waikato and Wellington on Friday. She is to sail the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Port Waikato. Karu is to load at Dunedin on Saturday and sail for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth via ports Waimarino is to leave Auckland on Friday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due on December 18. NOTICE TO MARINERS. The Marine Department advises that on December 16 the fixed green light on the end of the breakwater in Oamaru Harbour will be altered to flashing white every three seconds, thus; Flash o.3sec, eclipse 2.7 sec. The new light, like the existing one, will have an uninterrupted arc of visibility and be exhibited in all weathers.

INTERISLAND EXPRESS. The interisland express steamer Wahine reached Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.45 a.m. to-day. Passengers 1 and mail for the south connected with the express. I HAURAKI EXPECTED. j The Union Company advises that the Hauraki is expected from Pacific Coast ports to-morrow morning. It is hoped to despatch her in the afternoon for Bluff, Melbourne, Sydney, Fiji, Apia, and Vancouver. TRANSPACIFIC MAIL SERVICES. —Northbound.— Makura left Sydney on November 21 and Wellington on November 26 for San Francisco via Rarotonga and Papeete. She is due at San Francisco on December 13. Niagara left Sydney on December 5 and Auckland on December 10 for Vancouver via Suva and Honolulu. She is due at Vancouver on December 27. Monterey left Sydney to-day, and is to leave Auckland on December _lB ) for Los Angeles and San Francisco via Pago Pago and Honolulu. She is due at Los Angeles on December 28 and San Francisco on December 30. Maunganui is to leave Sydney on December 19 and Wellington on December 24 for San Franoiso via Rarotonga and Papeete. PERSONAL, Mr L. G. Ramsay has, Joined the Mouowai as chief officer, relieving Mr T. W. White, who has joined the Niagara ’in a similar position. Captain W. Martin has taken command of the Niagara, relieving Captain T. V. Hill for holidays. Captain E. A. Eden has rejoined the Totara, relieving Captain F. Pearson for further orders. Captain R. K. Entwistle has been engaged as master of the Foxton, relieving Captain T. Dalziel. Mr A. W. Bagley is relieving Mr V. Standring as second engineer of the, Wahine. Mr Bagley’s position as second engineer of the Kaimai has been_ taken by Mr J. W. M‘Gill, formerly third engineer of the Wahine, whose position has been taken by Mr G. Watt. HUNTINGDON AT~AUCKLAND. The Huntingdon, from Glasgow and Liverpool, arrived at Auckland on Monday. She will later complete discharge at Wellington. Lyttelton, ■ Port Chalmers, and Bluff. , TEKOA FOR NEW YORK. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s Tekoa, now loading Homeward on the coast, will now call at New York en route to London. She is scheduled to clear Tokomaru Bay on December 24 for New York, London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, Manchester, and Glasgow via Panama. SERVICE TO JAPAN. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. Ltd., agents for the Yamashita Risen Knisha Company, have received cabled advice from Japan to the effect that the above company has inaugurated a New Zealand monthly service from Japan to New Zealand. The first vessel scheduled to leave Miike, Japan, is the Manju Maru, which is sailing on December 26, and is due at Auckland on January 17. and .will proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The outward schedule will depend on the cargo booked for return to Japan. The Chifuku Maru is also listed to leave Japan in January,- and the Keifuku Maru in February. The above steamers are to run a direct regular service between New Zealand and Japan, and it is expected they : will result in a great increase of imports 1 and exports. The tonnages of the steamers in the service are as follows: Manju Maru, 6,515 tons gross, 3,848 tons net; Chifuku Maru, 5,857 tons, 4,259 tons net; Keifuku 5,831 tons gross, 4,228 tons net. KING MALCOLM IN PORT. The British motor ship King Malcolm arrived at Dunedin yesterday from Tampico (Gulf of Mexico) via the Panama Canal and northern ports, and berthed at the Rattray street wharf to discharge a part cargo of asphalt. The vessel left Tampico on September 19, ■ and arived at Auckland on October *26, 1 discharging part cargo there and at i Gisborne, Napier, Wellington, New I Plymouth, Lyttelton, and Timaru. She was delayed at Wellington for about j two weeks to undergo engine repairs. ' From this port the King Malcolm will I go to Bluff to complete discharge.
