ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of Dunedin Centre branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held yesterday, Mrs Hiett (president), presiding. There was a large gathering of members and friends. The president spoke on the recent licensing poll, and urged members to go forward with high .courage and confidence in God. The last word on the abolition of the liquor traffic had not yet been said in this or any other country, and as the 12 no-Hcense districts had retained their status, the result in that aspect of the poll was satisfactory. The annual report of the union’s various activities was read) by Mrs A. Dotting. The report showed that much work had been done by the union during the year. Mrs Dotting was heartily thanked for her report. The cradle roll, under the superintendence of Miss Winifred Powell, is very encouraging, there being 329 babies on the roll. One hundred and eight babies were enrolled this year. _ The treasurer’s report was most satisfactory. It showed that after paying all expenses there was a credit balance in hand. Miss Macandrew was thanked for her work as treasurer, and hearty thanks were extended to all those who had contributed to the union’s funds during the year, especially for poll work. The election of officers resulted President, Mrs A. Dotting; vice-presidents —Mesdames P. Dick, W. R. Don, W. H. Hiett, and Miss M. A. Powell; treasurer, Miss F. Macandrew, corresponding secretary, Mrs A. Maxwell; hon. pianiste, Mrs F. Clark; ‘ White Ribbon ’ agent, Mrs Miller; Press reporter and parliamentary correspondent, Mrs K. Downing; birthday league, Mrs Bain; representatives on local societies —Bible in schools, Mrs Cherry; National Council of Women, Mesdames R. Alexander and K. Downing; League of Nations, Miss Valentine. Several members spoke of the outstanding work of Mrs Hiett, the retiring president of the union, and good wishes were expressed for her continued health and strength to give service in a wider sphere as Dominion president.
